Confirmation

For Youth

The church firmly states that confirmation is a celebration of “Christian mystery” in which those being confirmed receive the “full outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost.” (CCC1302) High School students beginning 10th grade (or 15 years old) prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Older students who have not yet received the Sacrament are prepared with their peers.

Preparation for this Sacrament is a year long process, including weekly Faith Formation sessions for the candidates, a day of reflection in the Fall and Sacramental Preparation sessions where both the candidates and the sponsor/parent attend. The candidates also attend an overnight retreat experience prior to reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation is celebrated within the context of a regularly scheduled Weekend Mass in April/May. Preparation for the Sacrament begins with enrollment in our Faith Formation. Please contact the Youth Ministry Office.


For Adults

Perhaps due to family transitions, moves, or any other number of situations you were unable to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. We offer Sacramental Preparation sessions for all parishioners college age and older. If you are not a baptized Catholic, find out more about the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Please contact the Faith Formation Office.

THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
1285 - Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” Catechism of the Catholic Church no. 1285
